Vision

Supporting M3 education, innovation, and adoption in regulated industries

The M3 Collaboration was formed out of a desire to support the adoption of modern microbial methods within regulated industries. Four industry working groups, The steering committee and three subgroups formed after the first collaboration summit held in March of 2021. These subgroups work to create content on different topics supporting modern microbial method evaluation, implementation, validation, education, etc. The current subgroups are as follows:

  • Steering Committee - general tasks include collaboration organization, facilitating subgroup meetings, organizing summits, providing external publication and communication support, and development and maintenance of group information including email address, LinkedIn page, and website.

  • Subgroup #1 (Speedbump Group) – focuses on articles that address speedbumps identified at the first group summit. The group wrote a paper addressing challenges encountered when implementing bio-fluorescent particle counting (BFPC) systems, is in the process of completing a paper on the non-equivalence of the AFU and CFU, and is working on a paper on the validation of BFPC systems.

  • Subgroup #2 (Baseline Group) – focuses on understanding baseline counts and methods for establishing action and alert limits for BFPC systems. The group is currently underway on a publication on this topic.

  • Subgroup #3 (Document Toolbox Group) – focuses on the creation of templates and publications that will support internal communication on and implementation of modern microbial methods. The group completed a paper summarizing the first few steps in a modern microbial method evaluation roadmap, and is working on a modern microbial method user requirements specification template and a paper on data analytics.
